About the 1882 Foundation

We ensure the history, experiences, and contributions of Chinese Americans are recognized, preserved, and integrated into the American narrative. Through our key initiatives — Talk Story, Education, Collaborations, and Chinatown Futures — the Foundation advances inclusion and strengthens connections between past and present.

The 1882 Foundation was named to reclaim the year Chinese American exclusion was written into law. We transformed that year of legalized exclusion into a legacy of remembrance, justice, and recognition.
