DESCRIPTION:Through the generosity of a DC Humanities grant\, the 1882 Foundation has produced a unit on teaching about the history of DC’s Chinatown based on filmmaker Penny Lee’s oral histories of residents recounting their experiences of growing up in Chinatown and DC. Their stories speak to how they came to DC\, built their families and businesses\, and created their own community within DC. The unit also examines the current and future prospects for preserving the history and culture of the community – with lessons that go far beyond DC’s Chinatown. \nCome listen to our Education Director\, Ting-Yi Oei\, discuss how to implement our Flashback: Chinatown DC lesson units in the classroom!
