Join us as we officially unveil DC Chinatown’s newset mural!
She fought for a right she was denied.
The 1882 Foundation and DowntownDC BID invite elected officials, community leaders, partners, and invited guests to attend the official unveiling of a new public mural honoring Mabel Ping-Hua Lee in Washington, DC’s Chinatown.
The mural commemorates Mabel Ping-Hua Lee’s legacy as a suffragist, scholar, educator, and community leader whose advocacy for voting rights helped shape the women’s suffrage movement — despite being denied the right to vote herself under the Chinese Exclusion Act.
This public artwork serves as both a cultural landmark and an educational opportunity, highlighting the contributions of Chinese immigrants and Chinese Americans to the American story.
The mural was created by artist Jeff Huntington (Jahru) of Future History Now.
This is a private event.
