The 1882 Foundation Mourns Loss of Dawn Bohulano Mabalon

Filipino American scholar, activist and community leader Dr. Dawn Bohulano Mabalon passed away suddenly while on vacation with family in Hawaii. An author of many books on Filipino American history and culture, she was a professor at San Francisco State University and a founding board member of Asian & Pacific Islander American in Historic Preservation. APIAHP and the 1882 Foundation have worked together closely since each organization was formed several years ago at about the same time with shared goals of historic preservation and public education on Asian American heritage.

Mabalon’s contributions and leadership will be sorely missed. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to raise money for her return to California, funeral and memorial costs.
