Bruce Lee (1940 – 1973) was a Hong Kong American martial artist, actor, director, martial arts instructor and philosopher. In this event, we will explore Bruce Lee’s life and influence on Western culture and Asians growing up in the U.S. Rita Hadden is a Chinese American residing in DC. She retired from management and technology consulting, and now teaches lifelong learners in "Understanding Asia" at American University. Her great grandfather Ho Kom Tong is Bruce Lee's grandfather. Rita is inspired by both men who, in their lifetimes, have given much to humankind and the world. Rita will talk about: who was Bruce Lee? How is Bruce like Ho Kom Tong? Bruce's mother Grace Ho, and highlights of Bruce's life. Harry Chow, the son of a Chinese laundryman, was born and raised in DC. As a child, attending schools where he was the rare Asian, Harry was often bullied until he started learning martial arts. Harry met Bruce Lee several times and was inspired by him as a positive male role model. Harry will talk about Bruce Lee in DC and the star’s influence on him and on Western culture.
