Thank you to all who participated in the 1882 Symposium VI on Monday, May 14, 2018 in DC Chinatown! The day included a series of sessions focusing on “representation” — broadly speaking, how do we tell our stories and what platforms/collaborations can exist to raise the Chinese American community’s voices and awareness of its history? We explored the past year of activity and discussed initiatives in 2019: historic preservation, curriculum and education initiatives, opportunities for representation in media/documentary, the 150th anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad, Chinese American Women in History Conference (May 2019), and the next steps for the 50 Objects Project with the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA). The reception featured a key-note address by the W.O.W. Project‘s Mei Lum and closing remarks by Christopher P. Lu, former United States Deputy Secretary of Labor.Day Sessions were held at:
